For those of us with technical educational backgrounds, the concept of opportunity costs might be unfamiliar. However, as an economics graduate, it’s a principle I hold dearly when making business decisions.
Opportunity cost refers to the cost of choosing one activity over another more productive activity. For example, if a software engineer takes a day off to clean their home, they forgo a day’s salary. Similarly, a tech company can’t afford to pay highly skilled employees to perform lower-skilled tasks like data entry.

After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), I spent my days tirelessly applying for jobs to make use of my OPT (Optional Practical Training), commonly known as an international work permit. My persistence paid off when I secured a position with Google, working on the Android Operations Team.
